A woman who broke into sex work in her fifties says a video offering sex to anyone made her a fortune – despite trolls repeatedly hammering her appearance online

A 72-year-old woman in the “top 1%” of OnlyFans worldwide has ignored the haters to make a fortune – thanks in part to one particularly raunchy video.

Michelle Hardenbrook explained on the Soft White Underbelly podcast that she got into sex work after being made redundant from her secretarial job in her fifties.

She recalled: “Someone I knew suggested that I do full body sensuous massage with a happy ending and I said ‘Gosh that sounds nice, what is it?’”

Michelle ordered herself a massage table from Amazon and set to work, quickly realising that she was attracting more clients than she could practically manage. “In four days I had 25 appointments, and I thought ‘OK, that answers two questions; one – there is a market for a woman my age, and two – 25 appointments in 4 days is too many’,” she explained.

Michelle soon realised that many of her clients wanted more than she was offering and there was a lot more demand for full sex.

She revealed that, at that stage, she hadn’t actually had sex for about 12 years. “But I thought ‘Well, let’s give it a go and see what happens,” she continued. “So I had a full service client and everything just worked fine.

“When we got done, and he left, I thought ‘Man, I'm not going 12 years without sex again,’ I didn’t realise that I had missed it that much.” Michelle moved from San Diego to New Orleans, and soon had around 100 regular clients.

She recalled: “They would just see me over and over and over again. I got to know them personally and heard about their families. Many of them, I knew their birthday so when their birthday came around they got a freebie – I like to treat my guys right.”

But just before the Covid pandemic turned the world upside-down, Michelle had her own personal health crisis. She explained: “I had a medical scan, and it showed that I had and abdominal mass and it had to come out.

“I knew that I would be unable to work for six weeks so I had to do something else – I had to have some other source of income while I’m recuperating from this surgery.”

Michelle signed up to OnlyFans, just as lockdown turned the platform from a niche adult site to a globally-famous brand. But her success wasn’t instant. She continued: “I put up a bunch of pictures and I made a couple of videos but of course nothing was happening. If you're on OnlyFans you don't automatically get people that are going to come looking for you. They don't even know you exist."

So she had the idea of uploading a raunchy video to Twitter, inviting men to come and have sex with her for free. Michelle continued: “At the time I only had 239 followers … but the next morning I wake up and my Twitter account has blown up and I’ve got over 2,000 followers. I thought ‘How the hell did that happen?’”

A little detective work soon answered Michelle’s question. She recalled: “I checked my notifications on Twitter and I found this rapper – I don't know who he is – but he had made kind of a negative comment about my little video.

“Because of that comment it went viral and the last time I checked over five million people had viewed it.”

A lot of the comments were negative, with people mocking her age and weight, but her viral fame won her a lot of admirers too. She added: “I ended up in February of 2020 having 3,115 subscribers on my OnlyFans page and at that time they were paying $12.99 a month and and so in the month of February 2020 I earned $31,000 [just over £24,000].”

Things changed again in Autumn 2023 when Michelle was contacted by a management agency offering to take her adult modelling career to the next level. She now has two OnlyFans pages, with a total of around 5,000 paying subscribers. In April this year alone, she netted $49,000.

She is about to take on a third “chatter” to help with all of the messaging to fans. Subscribers come and go, Michelle said, but her earnings are steady: “What’s really important it I've made around $180,000 since the end of November 2023.”

While doing sex work has adversely affected her family relationships, overall her life is better than it’s ever been before. ”I'm grateful for every man that wants to see me naked,” she added.

The term OnlyFans free online generally refers to the idea of accessing OnlyFans content without having to pay for a subscription. This can involve various scenarios:

  • Promotions or Free Trials: Some OnlyFans creators offer promotions or free trial periods where new subscribers can access their content for free for a limited time. This allows users to explore the creator’s content before committing to a paid subscription.

  • Leaked Content: Unfortunately, the term might also be used by individuals seeking access to leaked or unauthorized content. This involves accessing content that was meant to be behind a paywall but is shared illegally. Accessing such content can be illegal and unethical, as it violates the creator’s rights and terms of service.

  • Free Content from Creators: Some creators offer free content as a teaser or to engage with potential subscribers. This content is typically limited and meant to give users a taste of what they can expect from a paid subscription.

  • Unauthorized Access: There are illegal websites and services that claim to provide free access to OnlyFans content, often through hacks or other illicit methods. These sites pose significant risks, including legal consequences and cybersecurity threats.
